Non-surgical Cosmetic Procedures: Social Media Is Increasing The Demand

As many as one in three people seek some type of facial cosmetic procedure according to a 2013 report from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The report highlights the increase in demand particularly for collagen and Botox injections among younger adults under the age of 30. This increase in demand for procedures is driven by photo sharing apps and other social media tools.

Social media is largely image based which means people are putting more emphasis on their image. Because this social media image is often the first impression, individuals are scrutinizing their faces more than ever before.  Social media users are increasingly aware of the image they are projecting. This is creating a dramatic increase in the need for medical aesthetic procedures to be accessible to those in age groups of all ages.

Women make up the majority of these patients, however there is an increase in demand from men as well. Every year, adults of all ages receive a large amount of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. However, the young adult segment is one of the fastest growing markets for cosmetic procedures. This makes adding medical aesthetics to spas, salons and health clubs a very viable option for owners and managers.
